Scenes from Junkie Fest and Yellow Daisies - KSS

Being the second Monday of July, this is one of the days that I usually post a Let's Make a Scene design sponsored by Kitchen Sink Stamps. Well, today I am sharing a couple of scenes that I created for Maria to share at Junkie Fest that mix in some of the new sets she used there that have now been released for all to enjoy.

I certainly hope the participants at Junkie Fest enjoyed these cards as much as I enjoyed creating them! My heart just seems to belong to masculine scenes!! They are my absolute favorite type of card to create.

Also released this month is Fresh as a Daisy Multi Step Clear Stamps. The card below was created for the Thank You, Thank You Very Much Challenge hosted by my blogging friend, Jeanette Cloyd, on Virtual Stamp Night over at Splitcoaststampers. The sentiment is from Make a Big Statement Clear Stamps by KSS.

The color recipe I am sharing today is for stamping the daisies in yellow.

Red, White, and Blue - CCEE1927

Since both Australia and the USA have red, white and blue for their colors, our July CCEE hostess, Vicky Gould, has asked the CCEE Stampers to use those colors to make a card.  It does not have to be for a holiday, just red, white and blue....but, of course, if you send out patriotic cards, go for it!  Have a fun, creative day!

With several masculine birthdays on the horizon this summer, I went with a nautical themed birthday card with images from Tim Holtz and a sentiment from Verve.

Tribute To Joanne Grzelak

Today the design teams from the CCEE Stampers and the Crazy 4 Challenges blogs (Joanne was a much loved and valued member of both of these teams) are hosting this blog hop as a tribute to the beautiful soul and talented artist, Joanne Grzelak. 

I personally "met" Joanne back in 2005 when we both became members of Splitcoaststampers and began our chase through the daily challenges posted there. We would stalk the threads together waiting for the challenges to be posted so we could jump right on them. What fun we had back in those early days stamping and chatting and attacking every challenge! It was always on my bucket list to one day met Joanne in person, but we ran out of time before that could happen.

I do know that I learned so much about beauty and art from her wonderful work. Her style was graceful and elegant and her work impeccable.

Besides stamping, Joanne and I also shared a love of the ocean and lighthouses.  The last card that I sent to her during her illness contained both so I felt it only fitting that I make one more ocean and lighthouse design in remembrance of her remarkable life and the place she holds in my heart.

Rest in Peace, my sweet friend. Know that we think of you often and miss you so much!

Sweet Summer Pears - Kitchen Sink Stamps

The time has come for me to confess! I have been indulging in way too many sweets this summer, and it is beginning to catch up with me. My pants are now a bit snugger than I care for them to be, and I won't be buying a newer, bigger wardrobe! Therefore today's card sponsored by Kitchen Sink Stamps is a tip of the hat to my new commitment to ban processed sugar from my diet until my clothes get baggy again!

It will mean more trips to the store for fresh produce, but I am determined to stick to my guns and get that scale moving downward.

I used two Kitchen Sink Multi Step Clear Stamps to complete this clean and simple, one-layer card: Pears Multi Step Clear Stamps and Berries Multi Step Clear Stamps. The stencil for the background is from Penny Black and brushed on with Distress Oxide Squeezed Lemonade after the pears were stamped and masked. The color recipes for the pears are attached below the card.

National Catfish Day

After discovering that June 25th is National Catfish Day, Lois Bak (our June CCEE Challenge Hostess) has asked that the CCEE Stampers create a card that has some kind of fish or sea life on it.

I don't have a catfish in my collection, but I do have a bass!

Summer Pleasures - Kitchen Sink Stamps

This clean and simple one layer card, sponsored by Kitchen Sink Stamps, was created using images from two of the newest KSS releases - Fishing Creel & Reel Multi Step Clear Stamps and Fisherman's Hat and Tackle Multi Step Clear Stamps. The sentiment is a part of the Berries Multi Step Clear Stamps set.

This card was stamped directly on the cardfront with the fisherman's hat being stamped first.

After the hat was completed, I masked it and stamped the creel. I added a mask for the creel before completing the card. 

To finish the card, I added the fly, the float, the grass, and the sentiment before removing the masks.

The responses I received about my new visual color recipes were all positive so I plan to continue adding them to my posts. They are very helpful to me, as well as my readers, for future reference.  The color recipes I have posted below are the ones I used to complete this design.

The grass was brushed on with SU Certainly Celery and the sentiment was stamped with Versafine Onyx Black.

CCEE1925 - National Pink Day

This Sunday (June 23) is National Pink Day. Lois has an easy challenge for the CCEE Stampers this week - make a pink card.

I had two non-stamper friends over to make cards yesterday afternoon. They have been getting their cards at the Dollar Store. I wanted to show then just how quickly, easily, and beautifully they could create their own cards. And inexpensively, too, when their friend has all the tools and materials they will need to share with them. We used just distress oxides, Versafine Onyx Black, silhouette stamps, and sentiments. They left very happy!!

While they worked on their cards, I took three minutes to create this pink one for today's challenge.

Pulling in the Bass - KSS

I have been having the best time this past week stockpiling fun scene cards in my masculine card basket. This card, sponsored by Kitchen Sink Stamps, was created mixing this fabulous fish image from their newly released Fishing 4 Bass Multi Step Clear Stamps with images from Cabin by the Lake Multi Step Clear Stamps.

I am trying out a new feature on my blog today with the main color recipes I used to create today's card. Instead of just listing the colors, I am going to stamp and photograph the progression of the image and the color used as I stamp it. The order in which I stamped the image will start on the left and read to the right. I usually stamp darkest to lightest, but not always. So sometimes the layers will be out of order, but by reading left to right you will be able to see how I stamped it.

I am starting first with the bass today. My photography on this is not the best on my first try, but I think you get the idea. Be sure to let me know it this is helps you better understand layered stamping.

The bass and the cabin were the only things that needed masking to create this scene.

The trees are images used at last year's Junkie Fest Workshops and are no longer available for purchase.

To create this card I followed these steps in this order:

  1. Stamp and mask the creel.

  2. Stamp and mask the reel.

  3. Stamp and mask the canoe. 

  4. Stamp the lake.

  5. Brush on the ground and sky.

  6. Dab on the clouds using my finger and white acrylic paint.

  7. Stamp on the trees.

  8. Stamp on the water's edge grasses.

  9. Remove all masks now.

 10. Stamp the bottom edge grass.

 11. Stamp the sentiment and silhouettes. I used a black finepoint sharpie to add the fishing line.

One other awesome set which also goes with the fishermen's theme is available for pre-order today and will ship on June 14.

Fisherman's Hat & Tackle Multi Step Clear Stamps

This final card I did for Technique Challenge 746 - Ink Blending at Splitcoaststampers today using the new Fishing 4 Bass Multi Step Clear Stamps set.

These are the three inks I blended for the background: Distress Ink Tumbled Glass, Mermaid Lagoon, and Faded Jeans. The designer paper is from Echo Park.

CCEE1923 - Back to School

This is the 60th anniversary of CCEE June hostess, Lois Bak's graduation from high school -- June 9, 1959.   So her challenge for the team this week is to make a card depicting our favorite subject in school.

Well, my favorite subject was art! I guess that is why in retirement, it continues to be such a huge part of my everyday life.
