CCEE1922 - What's Cookin'?

Before we get to our CCEE challenge for this week, we have something very sad to let you know. Our dear team member, Joanne Grzelak, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday morning. Joanne had been on a leave of absence for a number of months due to health issues, but had intended to come back and play with us, shortly. Joanne was always so very supportive and was much loved in the stamping community. We will miss her so much. Farewell, dear friend. Your beautiful work delighted and inspired us week after week.

May is apparently Barbecue Month and the 28th of May is Hamburger Day so our hostess, Frances Bryne, has asked the CCEE Stampers to think BBQ's and/or Hamburgers when creating our cards this week …

I went ahead and included both with this adorable set from Newton's Nook Designs called Winston's BBQ which was a gift to me from CCEE DT member, Kelly McKown-Santi. Thank you, Kelly!

Let's Make a Memorial Day Scene - KSS

Sometimes in the trips to the beach, the backyard bar-b-ques, and the picnics at the park we take part in on this holiday, it seems like the true meaning of the day is often lost.

In today's Let's Make a Memorial Day Scene design sponsored by Kitchen Sink Stamps, I hope we all have a chance to look at our nation's flag and remember those brave men and women who have given their lives in service to our nation for our freedom.

You might also wish to take part in the National Moment of Remembrance at 3:00 pm your local time.

CCEE1920 - Pizza Party

Tomorrow (17th May) is Pizza Party Day so for our challenge this week CCEE May hostess, Frances Byrne has asked the CCEE Stampers to create a card that features pizza or some other food item on it.

Everybody needs dessert after their pizza, don't they? My card was created with Sweet Cupcake by Stampin' Up and a digital sentiment from Tlc Creations.

Let's Make a Scene - Fairy Ring - KSS

Today's Let's Make a Scene design sponsored by Kitchen Sink Stamps was inspired by something I saw while out walking in the neighborhood this week.  One of my neighbors had a circle of toadstools growing in their front yard. In many countries they call a circle of toadstools is a fairy ring. There are many legends surrounding a fairy ring. Some of them are quite dark and scary, but some of them suggest that finding one can actually bring you good luck. Here is a link to an interesting article about fairy rings from Garden Collage magazine.

I have chosen a sentiment that could work for bad luck (when said sarcastically) or (said literally) for good luck.

Kitchen Sink Stamps Sets Used:

Color Recipe for the Toadstools

Stem
Layer 3 Stampin' Up Soft Suede
Layer 2 Stampin' Up Baked Brown Sugar
Layer 1 Momento Desert Sand

Cap
Layer 3 Stampin' Up Calypso Coral
Layer 2 Momento Tangelo
Layer 1 Stampin' Up Crushed Curry

The tree trucks were created with a woodgrain stencil by Momenta. Some of the grass was cut with a Grassy Edges die by My Favorite things and the stamped grass was from KSS Honey Bunny.

CCEE1919 - Mother's Day

Mother's Day is this coming Sunday in many parts of the world including the USA, Canada & Australia. May CCEE hostess, Frances Byrne therefore has asked the CCEE Stampers to create a card suitable for a mother. She says it doesn't have to be a Mother's Day card.

Since I finished my mother's card last week, I have created a Mother's Day card for my amazing daughter-in-law and put in today's mail.

The image and verse are from Unity.
The daughter-in-law sentiment is from Kitchen Sink Stamps.

Below are links to the cards created for this challenge

Roses for Mother - Kitchen Sink Stamps

For today's Mother's Day card sponsored by Kitchen Sink Stamps, I knew I wanted to use the beautiful rose and rosebud from Heart & Roses Multi Step Clear Stamps.

I wanted to create a swag of flowers to frame the sentiment so I went searching for something to use as filler to add shape and dimension to the spray of roses. I settled on one of the tiny layers of greenery from the Birch Trees Multi Step Clear Stamps to create a pale lavender "baby's breath" type flower and was very pleased with the results. I inked it up with Memento Lulu Lavender and then used an SU Old Olive marked to color the part of the stamp that is a tree branch.

I then went looking for one more element to add more color and texture. For the magenta berries, I used a stem from Shamrocks & Clover Multi Step Clear Stamps and the center from the small blossom in Enchanted Dogwoods Multi Step Clear Stamps. After stamping the center in Memento Lilac Posies, I then used a pencil eraser inked with Lilac Posies and stamped off once before stamping again on top of the berries!  (I am sure you can pick out the one that I forgot to stamp off!)

I finished the card by stenciling a delicate doily by Prima with Milled Lavender Distress Oxide. The sentiment was then stamped with Versafine Onyx Black, and I finished the card with a purple bow on the top corner.

Color Recipe for the Roses

Layer 4 PTI Lovely Lady
Layer 3 Stampin' Up Regal Rose
Layer 2 Stampin' Up Pretty in Pink
Layer 1 PTI Sweet Blush

Color Recipe for the Leaves

Layer 1 Stampin' Up Granny Apple Green
Layer 2 Stampin' Up Old Olive
Layer 3 Stampin' Up Mossy Meadow

The sentiments were pulled from Whole Family Clear Stamps and Words 4 Celebrating stamped with Versafine Onyx Black.
