Pop Up Birthday Card

The pop up birthday card I have created today is an adapted version of the pop up box card featured in the July Stampin' Success from Stampin' Up. The change I made was to cut off most of the lower right panel leaving only a narrow 3/8 inch tab. I put a strip of Scor-Tape on the tab, folded the card stock on the score lines, and taped the tab to the back of the card. I used an 8 x 8 square of lightweight card stock and scored it at 4 inches in both directions.

The front of my birthday pop card was created using this sweet digital bird and sentiment from Mini Bears & Birds from Angels Landing. The bird was colored with Bic Mark It pens. The clouds and grass were sponged on after masking the little birdie! I pierced the black mat and used my white gel pen to add faux stitching. I punched a slot in the bird panel to insert the ribbon which ties around the card to keep it closed.

The pop up bear inside the card also comes from Mini Bears & Birds. The flowers are from Simple Flowers and Pierced Flowers also by Angels Landing. The bear was colored with Bic Mark It pens while the digital flowers were printed on scraps of designer paper. The bear is attached to the inside of the card with a 5/8 inch tube of paper so that he pops up and stands out away from the back of the card when the card is opened. The inside sentiment was computer generated, cut, sponged, and matted before mounting to the back panel of the card. I left the floor of the card blank a personal message and signature.

Below you can see how the card folds closed.

  4. You did such a great job with this pop-up template, Lynn. The closed card is cute on its own, and the inside would be a really neat surprise. I'm glad you showed the photo of the card closed, since I now understand how that 5/8" tube works. Very clever.
