CCEE1603 - National Opposites Day

Did you know that the 25th January is National Opposite Day?  For our challenge this week Frances has asked that we make a card/project that has opposites on it. Think opposite colors on the color wheel, stripes and polka dots, black and white, mirror image, etc.

I chose to use reflections in water as my opposites today. The images are from Snowy Cabin Multi Step Clear Stamps and Tree Friends Multi Step Clear Stamps by Kitchen Sink Stamps while the sentiment is from Hero Arts.

We would love for you to join us in this fun challenge and share an opposites card on the CCEE Stampers Blog.

New from the Kitchen

In today's post sponsored by Kitchen Sink Stamps, I am taking a break from my usual 10 Minutes and 10 Minutes More designs to share with you the latest new sets available to order or pre-order from Kitchen Sink Stamps now. So much wintery fun! What a great blend of images to mix and match with each other as well as KSS images you may already own. I have not even begun to use all the fun mini silhouettes included in Icy Pond and Snowy Cabin. They are awesome!

The new sets are:

Icy Pond Multi Step Clear Stamps
Rolling Hills Multi Step Clear Stamps
Snowy Cabin Multi Step Clear Stamps
Snowmen Multi Step Clear Stamps
Love 4 Ducky & Teddy Multi Step Clear Stamps
Make a Big Statement Clear Stamps

All the images in this first card are from Multi Step Icy Pond which is a mini set. It also includes silhouettes of skaters, kids on a sled, and an ice fisherman. I only used three inks on this card: Stampin' Up's Bashful Blue, Memento's Northern Pine, and Versafine Onyx Black.

The images except for the sentiment on the card below are from Multi Step Snowy Cabin. This cabin is smaller than the cabin in Cabin by the Lake and has a snowy covered roof with dangling icicles. The sentiment is from Greetings from the Woods Clear Stamps. The inks used for this card were SU Bashful Blue, Papertrey Ink Classic Craft, Fine Linen, and Dark Chocolate, and Memento Espresso Truffle.

For this monochromatic anniversary card, I used only two inks: Stampin' Up's Going Grey and Versafine Onyx Black. The snowy hillside was created using Rolling Hills Multi Step Clear Stamps while the trees are a part of the Snowy Cabin Multi Step Clear Stamps set. The sentiment is from Make a Big Statement and the pond and skaters are from Multi Step Icy Pond.

I do not have a white ink that is worth a darn so here is how I created the three step snowmen from the new Snowmen Multi Step Clear Stamps set ( which contains three snowman sizes by the way. Used here are the large and medium). I stamped layer one of the snowman on a pink sticky note and stuck it on top of my white cardstock to cut out layer one. That gave me the bright white layer. I then stamped layer 2 on the pre-cut snowman with Papertrey Ink's Soft Stone. I next stamped layer 3 with Stampin' Up's Bashful Blue. The features were added last, of course.

Today's final card uses a new companion set for Teddy and Ducky called, what else, Love 4 Ducky & Teddy Multi Step Clear Stamps. It includes the tiara and top hat as well a a sweet box of chocolates. There are sentiments included that would work well for Valentine's Day or an anniversary.

When ordering from Kitchen Sink Stamps, remember to take advantage of a 15% discount by entering the store through the link in my right side bar and using the coupon provided there!

I'll be back on schedule with a Let's Make a Scene design next Monday! I bet it is something cold and frosty!

Look in on Lisa and Maria to see what they have to share today with the new stamps!

Truck and Birch Tree Tutorial - KSS

After posting yesterday's Let's Make a Scene design sponsored by Kitchen Sink Stamps using the KSS Classic Old Truck Multi Step Clear StampsBirch Trees Multi Step Clear Stamps, and Tree Friends Multi Step Clear Stamps, I have had several requests for a step by step tutorial describing how it was created.

From start to finish, the steps below took me one hour and 10 minutes. I was slowed down a little by the photography. Also note that I do stamp my layers using the MISTI which allows for easy restamping for color intensity

Step One:

Stamp layer 3 of the wheel base of the truck using Versafine Onyx Black twice.

Stamp layer 2 of the wheel base of the truck using Memento London Fog.

This next photo shows how layer 1 is lined up for stamping.

Layer 1 of the wheel base was then stamped with Papertrey Ink Soft Stone.

Now it is time to add the body of the truck. I started with layer 3 stamped 4 times with Papertrey Ink Classic Craft. (It is somewhat blotchy because my pad needs reinking and I haven't ordered the reinker yet).

Next I stamped layer 2 of the truck body twice also with Papertrey Ink Classic Craft.

Then I stamped layer 1 of the truck body twice with Papertrey Ink Fine Linen.

The last layer of the truck body (layer 4) I stamped with Papertrey Ink Dark Chocolate.

Now it is time to mask the truck to stamp the background. As you can see from the ink, I store my mask and reuse it over and over with the truck. The square post it below the truck keeps the tree trunks from stamping on the card front below the truck.

I then stamped layer 2 of the birch trees over the truck using Memento Espresso Truffle.

Next came layer 1 stamped with Papertrey Ink Classic Craft.

Then it was time to mask the tree trunks. I store and reuse these masks as well!

I then torn a horizon to lay across the entire card front to sponge in the sky with Papertrey Ink Aqua Mist.

Here it was time to remove the horizon mask and the tree truck mask.

The next masks were quickly torn panels for sponging on the road below the truck. I tapped in some Memento London Fog to create it.

At this point all masks were removed making it clear that one final masking needs to happen. We need to be able to see the birch tree trunks through the right truck window.

To accomplish this, I repositioned layer 2 of the birch tree trunk in the same place it was stamped originally.

Now using 4 post it notes, I masked off the truck by framing the window.

Then the two layers of the birch tree trunks are stamped in the same colors as the original.

Now all the masking has been completed.

I added the grazing deer and grass sprigs on the hill and by the road.

I then added a torn strip of glitter paper across the bottom and trimmed the card on all 4 sides.

The last things added to the card before the final trim were extra birch tree trunks which had been stamped and cut from another piece of cardstock.

One last trim and the scene is ready for use on the card or project of your choice. Happy stamping!

Winter Scenes

I am staying indoors keeping warm this morning but stamping winter scenes. I have a pile of January birthday cards to make and new stamps to try out. What fun!

This first card was made with a stamp by Hero Arts and sentiments from Verve and Sweet 'n Sassy Stamps. The ink is Lost Lagoon by Stampin' Up and the glitter paper is from the Paper Studio.

For this second card I tried out my new Winter Cardinal by Altenew which was one of my treasured Christmas gifts this year. The birch trees are from Birch Trees Multi Step Clear Stamps by Kitchen Sink Stamps. The tree branch is a Sizzix die cut.
