Sweet Blog Award

I received this delightful blog award from jimlynn of Creative Crafts by Lynn! Thanks so much, Lynn, for this sweet treat! The first thing I need to do is list ten things that make me happy. They are: 1)watching my dog roll around in his shopping bag, 2) completing a card without having to cover a smudge of ink, 3) reading a good book, 4) relaxing in a bubble bath, 5) spending time with kids and grandkids, 6) bargain shopping, 7) traveling to new places, 8) the luxury of not having to work, 9) stamping with my Gulf Coast Paper Crafters, and 10) a day at home without errands to run!  Next I will need to share this award with 5 other bloggers! I will check around this afternoon to see who else needs this sweet award!

Kitchen Sink Project of the Month - Heartstrings

Today I want to share a fun project which I used to do with my elementary students every year to decorate the class room for Valentine's Day. We would take pretty cords and attach hearts back to back all along the string adding ribbons and beads between the hearts as we went. These were then hung from the ceiling  in anticipation of Valentine's Day.

Well, I think this same concept will work well to create cards or greetings which can be hung from ceilings or in window or door frames to brighten someone's day. Wouldn't one look cheerful over a hospital bed or a new baby's crib! The possibilities are endless!

I'm hanging my Cup of Warm Comfort Heartstring in the narrow space between my calendar and my bulletin board! Now I'm all decorated for Valentine's Day just like the old days in my elementary classroom!

I made the heartstring to the left for my Mother's upcoming birthday. She has an open window frame in her kitchen which will allow the heartstring to spin freely. The back of  "For my Mother" says "with Love". I think she will like it!

For the Valentine heartstring, I put sweet chocolate goodies on the front side and  messages of love on the back!

As you can see, these were made by attaching various size and shape cut outs which I created using my Nestabilities. I started with a pretty cord (I used a silk necklace cord for the birthday heartstring and silver cord for the Valentine heartstring) and tied an overhand knot at the top to create the loop for hanging. Then I just worked my way down the string adding paper pieces to the front and back using Scor-Tape. I added beads between the pieces and attached the bows last after all the pieces were in place.

When securing the front and backs together, I used plenty of Scor-Tape and made certain that it held the string tightly in place to support the weight of the beads and paper pieces.

I hope you can think of someone special who would enjoy a heartstring hanging near them to brighten their day!! Now go make them one!

This inverted scalloped Nestability square was one of the delightful things Santa brought me this year. I cracked open the package and used it to create this layout for my 3 Step Butterfly! You can't tell in the picture, but the black on the wings is Fun Flock, another of my Christmas goodies!!

Kitchen Sink Crew Challenge #21

With today being the first Monday of the month, it is time for another Kitchen Sink Crew Challenge! Designer Lisa Somerville is hosting KSCC#21 and has asked that we use stitching on our card for this month's challenge. My sewing machine is on permanent loan to my daughter-in-law since seamstress is not a hat that I wear, but I trotted across the street to my mother's house. She is the seamstress in our family so she has a machine that does all kinds of fancy stitches. I found one that looks just like my KSS pinecones!! How fun is that!!! I hate sewing fabric, but sewing paper is a blast!!

I need several masculine winter birthday cards this month so I thought this greenery and pinecones would work well for the guys in my life!

I stamped Layer 4 of the pine needles first in SU Handsome Hunter. I then added the pinecones and masked them. Next I stamped the remaining layers of pines.

Stamps: Build a Garland Multi Step Clear Stamps and Berries Multi Step Clear Stamps (sentiment) by Kitchen Sink Stamps

Papers: US Vanilla, Kraft, Chocolate Chip, and Old Olive by Stampin' Up

Inks:  Greenery - Layer 4 - SU Handsome Hunter, Layer 3 - SU Old Olive, Layer 2 - SU Old Olive, Layer 1 - SU Kiwi Kiss

Pinecones - Layer 1 - Memento Potter's Clay stamped off once, Layer 2 - Memento Potter's Clay, Layer 3 - Memento Dark Cocoa stamped off once, Layer 4 - Memento Dark Cocoa

          Sentiment - Memento Dark Cocoa

Tools: Sewing Machine, Cuttlebug Herringbone Embossing Folder, SU Oval Punches

Embellishments: Brown Thread, Dimensionals

Hope you can play along with the Kitchen Sink Crew Challenge #21! Three lucky winners will end up with some KSS cash to spend at the Kitchen Sink Store!! And with new stamps being released on January 12, who wouldn't want some extra money to spend?? Remember to use your Kitchen Sink Stamps and add your entry to the Kitchen Sink Blog using Mr. Linky before the challenge ends on January 22!

Should you need any KSS supplies this week, remember to use a promo code when you order to get a 10% discount. My code is LYNN10KSS.

Let's go see which Kitchen Sink Crew members stitched by hand and who used their sewing machine. Or maybe someone did a little faux stitching!!!  Heading over the crew's blogs to see!!
